Why do we continue to sell media off the bodies of women? Why do women so often willfully exploit themselves in exactly the same way? Maybe it’s because this is how we’ve learned to speak in public. Or maybe it is because our technologies command us to speak in quite specific ways.
This critical montage is made from a growing corpus of ‘social media’ where young women --girls really-- reembody the very media they consume. Hundreds of similar videos can be found on YouTube alone. Indeed, I too am trapped inside a world of tragic images even as I try to make sense of it all by re-purposing these same messages...into critical, theoretical sense.
So then, what else could I do? I mixed a bit of audio from Andrea Dworkin along with these rather tame videos... and added music from Ying Yang Twins.
